The transit is with its original fitted wood box. The instrument is truly beautiful and obviously well made.
Original silver tone, chrome or nickel plate and black enamel finish on brass and iron/steel.
The tripod legs slip over the pegs at the base of the transit and tighten with thumb screws. Their length is adjustable and kept in place with another set of thumb screws. The angle of the legs can be adjusted above the pegs with slot head screws.
Marks; The Box and the Transit, The L. S. Starrett Co., Athol Mass USA. Paper labels inside the box\'s lid, as shown. The red label is no longer attached.
Condition: The Box, scrapes, scuffs and dings. The leather strap is broken. the box is sturdy. Two screws and wood blocks have been added to better secure the transit within the box. The Transit, no lenses. All adjustments work as they should. Further cleaning/detailing needed. The Legs, loss of finish and scattered rust on the exposed iron.
Color: The colors in the photos are true to life.
Dimensions: The Box, 13 1/2\" X 9 3/4\" X 5\". The Transit, 12 3/4\" X 8\" X 4\", as shown with the legs attached, 34\" tall, minimum height. The legs are 28 1/2\" long when closed and can be extended to 53\".
