I\'m selling because I found another Deuce with most of the modifications I was planning for this one already done, and it feels more appropriate--never pass an excuse to be lazy--when people from the VA are stopping by to tell me it would be a shame to ruin such a good example for restoration.
One of the things that makes these trucks so sought after is the multifuel engine. This truck does have the density compensators and there are instructions for reattaching them \"in an emergency for use of alternative fuels\" though they\'re not even necessary to run biodiesel, wvo, or used motor oil if you get the viscosity reasonably close to diesel.
The truck runs and drives great: I just drove 2500 miles a couple weeks back. These trucks really aren\'t that hard to get into if you\'re new, I picked this one up with absolutely no experience with large vehicles and got it all the way home from Iowa. It comes with a ton of goodies which I\'ll try to list out here but to be honest it\'s a little hard to keep track of
Air shift front axle (when you need 6x6 grunt on the go)m66 gun ring (only place I\'ve found with them for sale sells for 3k)m105a2 trailer, literally designed for this truck so it suits it perfectly (2.75 ton capacity on road, 1.5 off road)Two convoy lights with the oem telescoping mast (apparently so rare they aren\'t even worth looking for)
Truck tire inflation cageSome kind of giant military tent that I haven\'t had the time to investigate yet (box is like 9\'x3\'x1\')Lots of miscellaneous parts, the guy I got it from had 5 Deuces and this was his last one, so I got all that was left.
So I\'m sure you\'re wondering what the deal is with my asking price (which coincidentally is exactly what this truck cost me, and exactly what the truck I want costs) for all that being what a truck alone sells for out here (especially one this nice, really a great starting point for a restoration). There\'s two reasons. The bad one--keep reading it\'s not that bad--is 5th gear lost a couple teeth on the way home and they\'re rattling around in the bottom of the tranny (but that isn\'t necessarily a terrible thing if you wanted better cruising speeds anyway, explanation below), and the other is that I need a extremely quick sell because the truck I want to buy with the money is going to go very quickly.
If you really want to put some miles on a deuce though (as I plan to) the 5th gear problem really isn\'t the end of the world because there are kits up for sale for a lower geared 5th gear for better economy and cruising speed. I was planning on doing that anyway because I want to take long trips in my Deuce, and if this falls through and I end up keeping this one that\'ll still be the plan. Before I was sure about the 5th gear swap I was planning on doing a tranny swap myself--a good take-out transmission runs as low as $600, and you wouldn\'t even need to jack up the truck to do the job, super easy. I\'d even be willing to do the work down the line if it would make the sale happen.
Realistically, for the premium the bay puts on vehicles, and with all the goodies with this one, this should be an absolute steal.
