This wrecker is designed for recovery of disabled or mired vehicles, and perform crane operations. The crane extends a maximum 18 feet (5 meters), elevates 45 degrees, and swings 360 degrees. It is capable of lifting loads up to 20,000 lbs. (9,090 kg). There is 20,000 lb capacity front mounted winch with a second 45,000 lb capacity hydraulic winch installed at the rear of the vehicle.

The M936 was a wreckerused to recover disabled or stuck trucksand lift large components. A rotating, telescoping, and elevating hydraulic boom could lift a maximum of 20,000lb (9,100kg). Although the truck was not meant to carry a load, the boom could support 7,000lb (3,200kg) when towing. They had 20,000lb (9,100kg) front and 45,000lb (20,000kg) rear winches, outriggers, boom braces, chocks, block and tackle.
