Please see \"The 45-70 Springfield\" by Frasca & Hill, p. 282 for reference.This is an authentic Trapdoor Springfield Carbine Boot, Model of 1887 as described in Ordnance Memorandum No. 29. This boot is longer than previous models, providing better stability and has a brass plate fixed to the mouth to better hold it open. The brass plate is in very good-excellent condition with patina.See Picture 3: It is unit marked. The Rock Island Arsenal stamp is light, but discernible. The boot body leather and long strap are supple and in good shape, along with the stitching and patina rivets. The straps and buckles show typical age cracking and patina.
