This is a rare c1905 solid brass \"UNDERGROUND MINERS TAG\" from theB &S Copper Company of Butte Montana. The B & S was owned and operated by theAnaconda Copper Mining Company Butte, Montana.. It is 1\" in diameterand says \"B & S , C. CO\". These brass miners tags are rare and unique to underground mining and were used to identify each and every miner working underground. There was a board next to the working shaft of the mine and the miner would take a tag from his name and hang it on the working in shaft board. That way in case of an emergency the mining company would know who was working underground in the shaft on that shift.
