54.2 gramsOne XL rough cut slab of Fordite aka \"Detroit Agate\" from Michigan. This material is not an agate. It\'s a by product of painting automobiles at the Ford Motor Plant in the 1960\'s. Layer after layer of paint would collect on the racks after each automobile was painted. Each layer was baked on the rack (with the car) and hardened. This process was repeated over and over again creating banded and eye formations in the paint globs that resemble the pattern in fine agates. This material has since become very popular for jewelry and has great lapidary and historic interest. It is a softer material but will cut and polish well, similar to cutting turquoise. The paints displayed in this slab are true 1960\'s era colors cut from true 1960\'s era rough. Like an exhausted mineral deposit, all that is on the market is all there ever will be, ensuring a collectible future for this material. Keep as a display specimen cut one killer cab!
