The General Electric 8,500 Gas Turbine was the second generation of gaspower turbines developed exclusively for the Union Pacific Railroad followingthe success of the 4,500 Gas Turbines. They were intended as replacements forthe 4-8-8-4 Big Boys to tackle the massive grades found on the WasatchMountains and Sherman Hill. During their reign they could be seen on otherparts of the UP as needed. Because of their uniqueness, many examples havesurvived and can be seen on museum displaces. There are also many great colorvideos of then in action. For efficiency reasons, when in operation they wererun at full throttle, which led to their nickname, BIG BLOW.

Environment. It was oncedisplayed under glass for a brief four-month period. I have been a UP brass collectorfor over 35 years and this item has always been cared for with the respect itdeserves. This item is being sold to down size my collection.
