The item you are looking at is a used 22 W per channel stereo Class A solid state amplifier that was originally released in 1997, by Nirvana Electronic Works. It is loosely based on the Pass Labs DIY A40 amplifier, and the contract manufacturer for N.E.W. At the time was Cary Audio. Similar amps sold today retail for over $2000 new, and the performance of this amplifier is spectacular despite the conservative power rating of 22W per channel. It behaves more like a 40 watt amplifier in practice and comfortably drove a pair of KEF iQ 10 speakers to reasonably loud levels in a medium sized listening room. Being a class A amplifier it runs very warm to the touch, and this unit has a common issue of a flickering power light, which most of the amps of this model have developed over time. The amp works great despite this, and the noise floor is extremely quiet with no discernible hiss, provided it is driven by a suitably quiet preamp and source component. The transformer can be heard only during power up and quickly settles within a matter of seconds to be very quiet. The amplifier has not had any repair work performed on it and all parts are original to the date of manufacture. The amp has no volume control, so either a passive or active preamplifier is required for use. Cosmetically the item is in Excellent condition with only a couple of areas of slight discoloration on the chrome accent plate. Please contact me with any questions.
