OLD Kuna NUCHU (UCHU) Medicine Doll, carved from powerful Pallawalla Tree. Notice the gauges where wood was knifed from the \"nuchu,\" these pieces of splinter wood would be placed in water and the patient bathed with the healing water. This Nuchu was made by a medicine men, Inatuledi, and was used numerable times in healing rituals, and for capturing a benevolent spirit (bad spirit causing the illness.) The Inatuledi,(shaman medicine man) will carve the Nuchu from sacred trees and will sing, infusing the Nuchu with a tutelary spirit, a \"purba\" soul. Nuchus are good, used for healing,to watch over the owner. This nuchu was from my own personal collection and was collected by myself in the 1970\'s on one of our many collecting expeditions (Grissom/Heffron Collecting Expeditions), from the village of Mulatuppu, Kuna-Yala. This \"Nuchu\"or\"Uchu\" major characteristic is that it has this great organic form, with the carver carving the wood in its natural shape, giving credence that the wood gives \"life\" spirit to the nuchu and thus were its power comes from. It is 11 in. in height. This Nuchu was made by a medicine men, Inatuledi, and was used numerable times in healing rituals, and for capturing a benevolent spirit (bad spirit causing the illness.) Nuchus are good, used for healing, and to watch over the owner. Every Nuchu is unique, most are used over and over and kept for generations. Nuchus or uchus are a vehicle by which the Kuna people connect to theirspiritualworld.
This authentic Nuchu, is in excellent condition, and is an artifact of the finest museumquality and from my own personal collection. The rarity of the piece makes it priceless in regards to setting a value.
