Offered for your consideration is a pair of JBL model 406G-3 6½ inch woofers removed from my ARC30 two-way speakers, US-manufactured c.1999. These quality mid/bass drivers were likely used in and/or are suitable for some other JBL speakers made in the 1990’s, but I’ll let you make that assessment.

So, please see my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if these capable woofers are correct your needs.

These JBL woofers are in clean, excellent condition. They have ribbed paper cones, factory poly-coated for added mass and durability, and are flawless aside from a bit of dust settled in the grooves over the years. Plus, the voice coil dust caps have no dents or dimples, but one has a crack as pictured; the fissure doesn’t seem to go all the way through (or was repaired from the underside during assembly).

And, the original foam surrounds are fully intact and very springy with no signs of wear or atrophy. They will need to be replaced at some point in the future, as with all foam, but for now they’re in remarkably nice shape! Also, the black crinkle-finish enamel on the baskets is in great shape as well with no dings or oxidation. And, the +/- terminals measure the standard .205”, have never been soldered on the spades, and positive is marked by red. These JBL 6½” drivers are quite well-preserved overall.

Most importantly, they’ve been fully tested and sounds perfect—fast, detailed mid-frequency coverage and strong bass for the platform size. Plus, I tested their DC resistance at a perfectly-matched 6.4Ω each, consistent with a nominal 8 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the oversize basket flange measures 7¼” diameter, it stands about 3⅛” tall, and mount holes are spaced 4⅞” adjacent / 6⅞” diagonal apart, c-t-c.

This is a great find if your ARC30’s, or other suitable period JBL’s, have a blown or damaged mid/bass driver(s) and will have your speakers sounding their best again in no time. Long discontinued, they’re wise spares to have on hand just in case.

So, as pictured and described, this pair of JBL 6½” woofers is offered at a competitive price.
