Offered for your consideration is a pair of vintage Realistic model 0740 1½ inch wide dispersion cone tweeters, removed from their MC-1200 speakers manufactured c.1980. These popular high frequency drivers were also used in the Minimus 25, 26, MC-1800, 1201, 800, 600 and likely other Realistic speakers from the 1980’s.

So, please see the large photos I’ve taken and read the remaining description to decide if these capable tweeters are correct for your needs.

These tweeters are in clean, near excellent condition. They have structurally flawless paper cones and one voice coil dustcap is perfect while the other is a bit wrinkled. Also, the black enameled faceplates are in nice shape with just a bit of paint wear, mainly at the mount holes, but no dings or oxidation on the anodized steel baskets. Lastly, the +/- terminals are marked for polarity (red lead gasket is +) and have never been soldered on the spades. These are nicely-preserved vintage drivers overall.

They’ve been fully tested and sound very strong and clear with a detailed upper midrange and crisp highs to the ‘sparkly’ limits of audibility (rated to 18kHz). Plus, I tested their DC resistance at a perfectly-matched 7.9Ω each, consistent with an 8 ohm nominal driver rating. Lastly, the mount flanges measure just over 2⅝” square (3¼” at corners), cone diameter is 1⅝”, they stand about 1⅛” tall, and the mounting pattern is 2” adjacent / 2 13/16” diagonal apart, c-t-c.

This is a nice find if you have a blown or damaged tweeter in your MC-1200 or other suitable Realistic’s—your speakers will be sounding their finest again in no time! Discontinued for many years, they’re great spares to stash away for the future just in case. So, as pictured and described, this pair of Realistic model 0740 cone tweeters is offered at a competitive price.
