A 1911 Springfield Armory Hospital Corps BOLO Knife with a 1909 Rock Island Arsenal Sheath
How Does this set travel through time 105 years and still look this great?
Full Disclosure I did finger polish with \"Bar Keepers Friend\" to better display the condition. I know I erased the patina, but another 105 years or a chemical patina process and it will be good as \"new\".
The blade edge does not appear to have been used or sharpened, I believe the nicks seen only on the rounded part of the blade were caused by sheathing the knife into the copper opening.
The sheath/scabbard is in amazing condition in a nice dark tan with some staining but perfect stitches.
Stamped on the sheath and only observable in perfect light and magnification are the letters FF and GHB.From my research, this may indicate that the sheath and maybe the knife were sent back to Rock Island Arsenal after WWI for refurbishment and redeployment.
The walnut handle is flawless!
