Up for sale is an antiquejitte (sometimes pronounced \'jutte\') weapon from the Edo period in Japan, which ended in 1867. This is NOT a reproduction. Thejitte was a specialized weapon used by samurai police to disarm opponents, who usually had a sword. It also could be used to jab and strike, usually at the head. This was used in close, hand-to-handcombat and would probably have been very effective in the hand of a skilled warrior.

This particular example has ametal tip attached to a lacquered wood staff. The grip/handle is a rope with a lacquer finish. The end has an iron piece, but as you can see, the wood attachment is broken. The iron piece can be attached, but it falls off rather easily. The iron hook is tight.

Very formidable piece. Some areas of rust and pitting. This one is large; it measures about 66 cm longand weighs almost 600 grams. A very old piece. Excellent to add to any weapon or sword collection.
