Rust wear, mica shades are in great condition, the interior has the striker that has come loose but is still with the lantern. It has pat date on the front but that has worn off a lot.
What really makes this a Museum piece is the signatures of soldiers on the side. It is signed by L Burrows Jr. It is signed Rattlesnake Camp, which is actually Fort Harney. It is also dated 1869 under the signed Rattlesnake Camp. It is also signed RJ Birney, AR Brown, and LA Wade. I believe they were part of the 23rd infantry regiment. I had done some research and these men were listed as part of this Rattlesnake Camp. There is some information out there about their time in the Civil War, or directly after the Civil War.
Just go to google and do a search on Fort Harney.
I have pictured the signatures as well as I can, a lot of the toleware has worn off.
This truly is a piece of history and one of a kind. It is amazing the mica has last this long and it was used!! Still has a couple of matches in it.
