SIGNED BY ARTIST. Small edge tear (3/4\" long) 8 x 10\" glossy B&W photo showing Cioni in casual shirt with arms crossed. His name is printed on the bottom edge with London Records. Signed in ball point pen. Cioni started out as a fisherman but became a leading Italian tenor in great demand during the mid and late 1950s. In 1964, he took part in two historical performances, first at Covent Garden, as Cavaradossi in Tosca, opposite Maria Callas and Tito Gobbi, and then at La Scala, as Alfredo in La Traviata, opposite Anna Moffo and Mario Sereni, under Herbert von Karajan. Cioni became widely known through his studio recordings of Lucia di Lammermoor and Rigoletto, opposite Joan Sutherland in 1961.There is no date to this photo, possibly early to mid 1960s.
