The less common 960 roubles bond variation.These loans were arranged, backed, and signed by Nathan Mayer Rothschild in order to raise the funds necessary to rebuild Russia after the French invasion of Russia under Napoleon. With text in Russian, English and French. Stamped and signed in ink by Nathan Rothschild on upper right side of the bond. Measures 36 x 23.5 cm (14 1/8 x 9 1/4 in.)
Condition: this particular bond had a few tears and it was completely split in the middle along the centerfold. The paper used in these bonds is like thick carton and after several foldings would break. Just consider the age of the paper - about 190 years! I personally restored the bond by removing old tape used to hold split pieces, removing some old dirt and stains and repairing the center split. There are no missing pieces and the paper is in better than average condition for these bond types. There are some dark spots from the old tape on the back. Therefore I grade the condition as about VF. A worse exampes of this bond would be selling for as much as $300. It is suitable for framing!
Nathan Mayer Rothschild (1777-1836) founded the British branch of the Rothschild banking house in London in 1805 and became the first Jew admitted to the House of Lords. The London branch remains today an important banking establishment among Western nations.\"
