Slide rule, countable range - analog computing device that allows to perform multiple mathematical operations, including multiplication and division of numbers, powers (most often in the square and cube), the calculation of square and cube roots, computation of logarithms, potentiation, calculating trigonometric and hyperbolic functions and some other operations. If you break the calculation into three steps, you can use a slide rule, you can build any number of the actual extent and root extract any real degree.
Before the advent of pocket calculators, this tool is an indispensable instrument of a calculated engineer. The accuracy of calculations - about 3 significant digits.
Rulers, which were issued in the Soviet Union, in contrast to the ruler on the photos, almost always have an extra centimeter scale at the chamfered edges, as in the usual line. Logarithmic scales were 25 cm long, usually applied at the ends of their designation.
