For sale is an original Springfield 1873 Trapdoor barrel that has been faithfully converted into a carbine length barrel.
This is a rifle barrel, that was cut, re-tapered & crowned. A slot was milled for the front site and a carbine style front site was made and brazed onto the barrel. After this was completed, the barrel was polished & hot nitre blued. The bluing has a couple of scratches. This barrel has some pitting on the outside where it was up against the rifle stock. On a carbine stock, this pitting will show.The barrel is 22 3/32 inches long. The picture with the tape measure looks longer, because of the location of the camera lens at the middle of the barrel. The outside barrel diameter at the muzzle is 0.722 inch. The base of the front site is 0.79 from the muzzle.
The top of the front site blade is 0.424 inch off of the top of the barrel. This allows for shooting at 100 yards or it can be shortened to a more period correct height.
The bore looks very good. For +120 years old, it's in excellent condition. It is shiny and has strong rifling.
