Such an exciting find! This fabulous 19th century carved wood jardiniere, large centerpiece or planter is perfect for your Country French or English Manor decor, or any, really. Reminds me so much of the pieces we used to see in homes of designer extraordinaire, the late Charles Faudree. I can see it filled with fruit on a center bar, or plants, flowers on a dining table, can\'t you? This is the first we\'ve ever seen one with farm scene of rooster, hen, rabbit or hare. And it\'s in remarkably good condition for mid-late 1800s when it would have been first carved entirely by hand. The jardiniere is a full 20\" long, large and just waiting to be put to use in your home or one of mine. Don\'t let me think too long where I can find a spot for it. I\'m in love with this one!
If you\'ve followed us for a while you know I\'m a big fan of the old hand carved \"Black Forest\" items that come to us from 19th century Switzerland, Germany, parts of France and Italy, where they pleased the Grand Tour tourists and still please us all today. These hand carved treasures range from whimsical small bears to large and elaborate mantel clocks, wall clocks, wall plaques showing the most awesome anatomical studies of stag, fowl, \"fruits of the hunt\". I\'ve got more to list so look through the vast collection. I\'ve just used quite a few piece in our own 2nd home decoration , Rocky Mountains location, and love the look as well as the heritage since my own ancestors hail from that region and others. The pieces work well in Country Manor, French Country, Ski Lodge or Hunt Lodge and even in a den or office. Everything from a pocket watch case to huge plaques - from needle and thread holders to cigar caddy - these decorative objects survive today a testament to the artisan\'s craft of carving wood.

Very good to excellent condition, remarkably few flaws to note. It does have a few wood worm holes, a very ancient and minimal infestation that hasn\'t left more than the charming hole here or there. Nothing pithy or spoiled about this old wood, so was treated long ago. There is not a zinc liner for this one, and really no evidence one was ever with it. You can\'t plant directly into it or you\'ll damage it with moisture. But an inside container or small clay-pot garden for herbs would just be fabulous, wouldn\'t it! Note from bottom, you can see an age split in one of the bottom boards. It\'s all sound and solid, however, very nicely preserved. There are a lot of long slender leaves, flowers, etc., and I really am not seeing any notably damaged. Surely there\'s a leaf tip or something gone. A small section of the carved vine? Look it over carefully, too. I\'m a bit blinded by my love for this one. Full measurements are noted on the photos, but it is 20\" long, 11.5\" widest and 9.5\" tall, on solid un-warped and smooth-resting feet. So charming!
