This kachina is visually exciting;just look at all the pictures, especially the lower part of the kachina, how the carver handles the one-piece cylindricalform is amazing and very sculptural.

Carlton Timms is a well-establishedHopi master carver. He is particularly known for his creative use of traditionalKachina form and embellishment. And, he is very involved in social issues thatimpact the Hopi community. There are three other kachinas from this artistcurrently on , from $400-1200.

HOPI RITUAL USE

Of all thewomen who appear with other Kachinas, the Kachina maiden, or Kachin’Mana is themost prevalent. If she is carrying blue corn, she is know as the blue CornMaiden, similarly yellow corn, etc. She often appears in regular Kachina danceswith household ware, accompanied by Long Haired Kachina. Her presence is aprayer for corn. She also honors Mother Earth and her continuing ability tofeed her children. Placing this kachina in your home, particularly on an altar,shows respect for the many gifts we receive each day from Mother Earth. Thisgentle maiden reminds us always to be thankful.
