Three Civil War Era US Navy Buttons - Different Types incl. 1840s & Tice\'s NA233:

Included are three non-dug Civil War era two-piece US Navy officers\' buttons with different designs.
- The coat size (22 mm) button is listed as Tice\'s NA227A and Albert\'s NA112. This design, with the anchor fluke behind the eagle\'s wing, is the common Civil War US Navy design, with use beginning in the early 1850s. This button has the depressed-mark backmark \"D. EVANS & CO. / ATTLEBORO MASS.\" with an inner ring of dots. This exact backmark is not covered by Tice or Bazelon and McGuinn, but both date a similar three-piece backmark (no period after MASS) from 1860 through the 1870s. This example is in excellent condition, with no pushes and a straight shank.
- The cuff size (15 mm) button is listed as Tice\'s NA233As and Albert\'s NA116Av. This design, with no stacked cannonballs below the anchor, is only available in this size and is hard to find; Tice writes that Scovill made these during the 1850s. This example has a blank tinned-iron back with a floating shank (by design); it is in excellent tiny kepi-size (12 mm) button is listed as Tice\'s NA206As and Albert\'s NA102Av. This design, with an eagle above a vertical anchor, was used by the Navy from the 1830s until the early 1850s, though Tice writes that NA206 likely dates no earlier than the 1840s. This example also has a blank tinned-iron back with a floating shank (by design); it is in very good condition with some wear.
