EMD initially introduced this 6,000 HP AC diesel-electric locomotive aspower for the massive coal trains coming out of the Powder River Basin inWyoming. Prior to these units, and their GE counterpart, helpers where neededfor these extra heavy trains. Later on the adaptation of distributed powerwould further define their role. Ultimately a horsepower requirement of around4,500 HP seems to be the current accepted practice.

Environment. It was oncedisplayed under glass for a brief four-month period. I have been a UP brass collectorfor over 35 years and this item has always been cared for with the respect itdeserves. This item is being sold to down size my collection.
