Unusual Antique Carved Treen Wooden Cane Handle Dog Black Forest Mouth Open 1910:

Early 20th century wooden walking cane handle carved in the shape of a dogs head (not sure which breed). Looks to be carved from pine and almost certainly originates in the Black Forest region of Germany/Austria. The head had two glass eyes originally - one has now been lost (not too difficult to replace I think). Unusually the dog has an articulated (hinged) mouth - not sure of the significance/use of this feature of the handle. The gilt brass ferrule - where the head joins the section of cane seems to be stamped \'mall\'? Good overall used condition - small chip to lower jaw; mouth articulation quite stiff. Priced to reflect condition and the head measures 2 1/2 inches to the top of the ferrule. Please see my other items for more interesting bits and bobs.
