Very Rare Antique Tibet / Ladakh Tribal Perak Headdress W/ Gau, Turquoise For Sale
This is a very rare antique perak or headdress from the Himalayas, Tibet or Ladakh. It is studded with natural turquoise stones, agate and carnelian beads, old pearls shaped like teeth and dark red glass beads. As a woman became wealthier, she would have replaced the red beads with more turquoise stones.
In the center is a large silver and turquoise Gau, a charm or prayer box and at the back is another one in probably silver alloy. The base isa long piece of leather, covered with old muslim & hand-woven edging. The circumference of the headpiece is 25 inches and the length from the front to the back is 24 inches. The width of the back is 8 inches and it tapers down to 4 inches wide.
The stones are natural turquoise and appear original; however, a few have been replaced by newer stones. The piece is very heavy and thus the shipping cost will be about $50-60, but I will only charge the actual cost of shipping and insurance.
I travel frequently between SF and Amsterdam, Neth. and item will be sent from wherever I am when the sale closes. Shipment will take approximately 2 weeks. If this isn't satisfactory, please refrain from offerding.
