VINTAGE CELADON GREEN SATIN SUAVETTE FULL SLIP by VAN RAALTE Size 34 The thing about fashions was they generated business so, if last year’s hemline was ‘down there’, moving it up three inches would mean women would need to replace lots of their clothes so as to look in touch with who was wearing what. Fine if, all of a sudden, hemlines drop by three inches because last year’s frocks wouldn’t have enough spare fabric to cope but, when hemlines were raised, a needle and thread could do the trick. Or even a pair of scissors. Sometimes the hemline can be let down again but, once our lady had removed six inches (taking the label in the lower side seam with it) her work was permanent – and a good job she knew what she was doing because what we have here is a very, very serviceable Van Raalte slip. And not just any old Van Raalte slip (which aren’t exactly rare) because, as you see, this one has tons of appliqué and the colour of the nylon fabric is sublime. Celadon: that fabulously exclusive colour that sorts the superb from the merely nice, as in: “because you love nice things.” And that sublime fabric? Ah yes, can’t be mistaken for anything else, so we don’t need no labels, thank you very much – because it’s a Satin Suavette. The appliqué was unique to this type of Van Raalte – that’s how we know. A Satin Suavette, in case you didn’t know, is quite a few levels of niceness above being merely “nice things”. The price would also have been a few levels up, of course. Because you love nice things and your husband can afford to buy them for you. Such was the way in the middle of the last century (like we are talking about ancient history, “when men were men and women were glad” :o) but here’s your chance to get your hands on a Satin Suavette at an affordable price, as long as you are a Size 34, that is. If this might apply to you, pause for a moment, look at one or two of our pix and imagine how it would feel to smooth that fabulous fabric down over yourself before putting on your regular clothes, grabbing the car keys and driving off to work. But it couldn’t possibly be just another day . . . not in a Satin Suavette.

Regrettably, we are no longer allowed to tell you who they are (even though most of them ceased trading long ago), while our lords and masters can tell you all about half a dozen mobile phone companies . . . that they don’t sell. Such is life. Unless stated as New with or without tags (NWT or NWOT), all are sold as being in excellent used condition: free of damage, holes, tears and stains, except where specifically stated otherwise. And while we\'re at it, how about answering the question, in case any of you are wondering why we let our TRS + seller status slip recently. It is most regrettable that we vintage clothing sellers are being near-forced into offering 30 day returns. We don\'t feel it\'s fair for sellers or our buyers. Would you want to buy something on another user has recently possessed for the last month, other than the seller representing the item? We don\'t know if it\'s been exposed to pet allergens, smoke... or even worn for a special occasion. Particularly, in the lingerie market, we just don\'t think enough thought went into the decision to implement that plan. As a result, we\'re now having to pay 20% more on seller fees and are losing our badge. Two weeks is more than enough time for buyers to decide whether they want that item or not. As many people are talking in the forums, we feel it will some day lead to even longer return possibilities. A year? Enough is enough.
