It appears to be in new condition, worn very little (if at all).
I do not know exactly when this hat was manufactured, but the earliest likely date is 1946 (see history below).The lining is machine stitched. The interior tag reads:
\"The lining in this hat is Rayon Satin of Celanese* yarn.*REG. U. S. PAT. OFF\"
The sweatband is labeled with the following information (please see the pictures):
  • John B. Stetson Company •Royal De LuxeSTETSON
  • St. Regis
  • Kline & Gallimore, Inc. 518 Federal St. Camden, N.J.
A short historyCelanese Corporation makes specialized materials (and still exists today). Kline & Gallimore was a department store that operated from the 1930s to the 1950s.E.A. Mallory & Sonswas a well-known, high-quality hat company from the 1820s, which, due to falling sales, was purchased by Stetson in 1946.
Hence the Stetson hat in a Mallory box with a Kline & Gallimore stamp.(Of course, the possibility exists that the previous owner may have just put his hat in a different box than he purchased it in.)
