Beautiful 9’4” Sportflite Surfboard for sale. All repaired, reconditioned and ready tosurf. All original and still very whitewith a super nice California redwood fin.Fin had been broken loose and was expertly repaired and is now extremelystrong. That’s why there’s a dark area bythe fin, its epoxy not water rot. This Sportflite was one of the best productionsurfboards made. If you have a good quality template/core all the boards offthat will be high quality. No one seems to know exactly what company madethem, but they seemed to have been mostly sold by Sears. This type of board was often referred to as “handmadeproduction” or “custom production” surfboards.These boards were similar to Dave Sweet boards, one of the best andtoughest made boards at the time. Theonly difference was the Sportflite has a 1 ½” X ½” routed stringer down themiddle. Apparently the company that madethese high quality Sportflite surfboards also made a cheap very poor qualitysurfboard with foam poured inside a matt glass blank. They also had a slightly different logo/lamand were made completely different than this board. The average customer had trouble discerningwhy the quality surfboard was $20 more, well that was the reason. Often this higher grade production boardswere as good if not better than some of the more expensive custom hand shapedsurfboards. It all depended on whoshaped them and how consistently well-made they were. This Sportflight is almost an exact copy ofthe popular “Velzy Pig” a very fun and easy riding board of the time. Most people that know old surfboard designsthink that Dale Velzy did make the template/cores because the Custom Sportfliteis almost an exact copy the Velzy Pig. Thedimensions are: 21 ½” W x 16 ½” N x 16 3/8”T, 6”tail block , wide point starts6” in back of center, fin starts 1 1/2” from tail. Weight: 27 lbs. Rails: eggy and thinner. Bottom: mild roll. All just like the Velzy Pigs of the 60’s. Thisboard is beautiful enough to hang or show off atop your classic car and tough enoughto surf and have a bunch of fun on.
