For sale is a unique set of 6 vintage decorative steak knives made by Anton Wingen Jr. Solingen Germany Rostfrei. The blades are really decorative and colorful and are a mix of green, gold, red, and black. The scene depicts trees , a moose , deer , and some birds. 2 of them have some VERY light gilding wear, but the rest are pretty much as good as you can get.
Oh, and I’m not really sure what the handles are made out of. Stag horn or bone or are they just wooden? I really don’t know. Anyway, for some reason a couple of the metal *caps* at the end of the blades have a small gap between them and the handles. Not sure if that was a manufacturing goof or what.
As for the box, it has a ding on the bottom of it, and some wear on the outside of the box on the hinge and a couple of dark spots on the top inside of the box, but the red silk liner seems to be in really good shape, the hinge closes well, and it still has the original rope banding around the inside presentation area.
Overall, I wish I could date these, but I really have no clue where to begin. I know that this firm had been around for a long time and lasted a good 100 years or so, but that’s all I really know about them. Whatever the case, it’s a nice set, so just offer!
