Vintage Bird Wood Carving Bird - Cocobolo Wood Carving - Panama

Postedfor your consideration is this primitive wood carving of a bird – most likelyhonoring the spirit of that bird done by the Embera–Wounaan who are a semi-nomadicindigenous people in Panama. I am unsure when this was carved but it was mostlikely done for the Tourist trade sometime in the 50’s or 60’s – I am alsounsure as to the type of bird this is but they only carved birds they respected.The estate this came had quite few items like this. This stands 7 ½” tall andis 3 ½” wide at the middle of the wings – the base measures 3 ¾” x 2 ¼”. Thewood used to carve this is called cocobolo and is sometime referred to as“Monkey Wood” – it is a cousin to mahogany.
