Five inch Bardou / Brashear Equatorial Telescope Vintage c. 1895
Astronomical Telescope and Eyepieces by John A. Brashear, Allegheny, PA.
5-inch f/15 objective by Albert D. Bardou, Paris (c. 1884-1895).
This is an exceedingly rare John A. Brashear 5-inch f/15 equatorial refractor with objective by Bardou, Paris.
It is mounted on a heavy (61 lb.) equatorial mount which is adjustable for latitude.
The tube is brass and bronze; the equatorial is cast and machined steel.
This telescope has been in the possession of the current owner for the past 40 years and gives fine views of astronomical objects.
The uncoated 5-inch Bardou objective is in near fine condition with no scratches nor stains. Bardou objectives of this size are extremely rare.
The tube has small dents and scuffs and loss of lacquer finish. The slow-motion R.A. rod is bent. There is some old red grease on the worm gear.
This telescope would respond well to a cosmetic restoration.
With original eyepieces, Herschel wedge with rotating blue filter wheel (varying densities) , and original eyepiece case.

The wood tripod legs are replacements. There is no serial number on any of the parts.
The finder rings are original, but the finder scope is missing. A brass bar andblock of blue wood is used as a counterweight in the finder rings. Local pickup can be arranged within 100 miles of Houston, TX.
