Offered for your consideration is a pair of vintage Lafayette 2½ inch cone tweeters, made in Japan c.1975. They were removed from their Criterion 222 speakers and may be suitable for other models from this era. So, please take a look at the large photos, measurements, and read the remaining description to decide if these superb high frequency drivers are suitable for your needs.

These tweeters are in clean, excellent condition. They have perfect paper cones and flawless voice coil dustcaps. Plus the anodized baskets are in great shape with no dings and minimal if any oxidation. Lastly, the +/- terminals are marked for polarity (red = + ) and have never been soldered on the spades—the rear terminal is only for use as a bridge if using an inline capacitor; it has no connection to the voice coil. Overall, these tweeters are very nicely preserved.

They’ve been fully tested and sound terrific—strong and clear with the upper frequency “sparkle” approaching many dome units. Also, I tested their DC resistance tested at a perfectly-matched 7.9Ω each, consistent with a nominal 8 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the frames measure 2⅝” square (3¼” at corners), they stand roughly 1” tall, and the mount holes are spaced 2” adjacent / 2⅞” diagonal apart, c-t-c.

These are a great find if your Criterion 222 or other suitable model has blown or damaged tweeters and will have them sounding their best again in no time! Plus, they’re also ready for action in your next two or three-way speaker building project if that’s what you had in mind?
