Vintage TEPCO Trader Vic’s HEAVY Coconut Mug TIKI BAR:
$50.00

Welcome to Beachdude, Inc. !!!

This sale features a visually beautiful, uncommon TEPCO Coconut Mug cocktail piece.  Among the restaurants originally using these were several of the Trader Vic’s locations.  It is not at all like what you’re used to within the genre.  Unlike 99% of the coconut mugs made in the past (and present), this one is made of heavy, solid RESTAURANT china - - which means that it’s far more sturdy and has a great ‘feel’ to it.  It’s also a pretty high-capacity cocktail piece - - it holds precisely three cups fluid and stands about 4¼” high.

This piece, and any of the TEPCO coconut mugs – is at least 50 years old.  Still in unused or Mint condition, there is no sign of usage on it whatsoever.  It’s perfect for both a bright display spot or for practical use.  This particular example has beautiful lines to it as well.

TEPCO, acronym for “Technical Porcelain and Chinaware Company”, operated out of a vitrified restaurant ware pottery in El Cerrito, California from 1922 to circa 1973.  During its period of peak production in the 1940’s – 1960’s, John Pagliero\'s pottery could produce 30,000 dishes a day.  Many of Pagliero’s relatives worked for the company and the details of the operation make for interesting reading, to say the least.  A comprehensive and engaging history of the TEPCO pottery is found online.

TEPCO is especially known for its production of numerous vibrant, cheerful pieces that were very unusual items for a restaurant china company.   Many of their patterns were uncommonly striking and funky and, at the same time, they’re made out of the hard-core, heavy, durable stuff that makes restaurant china so appealing in the first place.

I am certain that the winning buyer of this piece will be thrilled with their purchase from this sale!!
