This is a great Wheary Airplane Wardrolette Steamer trunk. It is 30\" Long and 20\" wide by 8\" high. Great look to this well travelled piece of American Travel history. It has the neat Wheary Airline metal tag with the plane symbol. No handle on the one side and no key. It is well traveled which means scratches, damage (dent out on back hinge, see photo) and the inside will have to be replaced and cleaned (it is stale smelling) as well as the hardware oiled and worked if used as a steamer trunk. Initials painted on the one end. WAG which I extra cool for dog people. It has a patented system inside for hanging clothing on the trip and has hangers to work with the system. (which I admittedly never used.)
These trunks were made heavy and withstood a lot of banging around and even water damage. The airlines did not have the luggage systems they do now, so people used the steamer trunks on Airlines and Wheary developed a line of trunks about this size just for air travel. It would be a great coffee table and there are lately a lot of tutorials out there on how to do it. I even got an e-mail letter from HGTV with a tutorial this week with a DIY how to make a coffee table with exactly this model of trunk.. Basically you pick out feet/legs, cut a board for the bottom, set the board inside, attach the legs and Bob\'s your Uncle! Well traveled steamer trunk decor with hidden storage. You can buy all kinds of travel stickers even now.
I have had it since the late seventies and stored the art work in it for my Punk Rock T-shirts, so I didn\'t bother about the lining. It is just plain too heavy for me to move around now.
This is heavy, 24 pounds, and then it will need a box, so it may be picked up locally in Stephentown, NY once purchased and paid.
