The subject of this review isan interesting collectible specimen of the men’s timepiece from the WWII period. In 1939-1945, German andSwiss watch companies began to release the military models of watches. Thewatches were produced under the military order of German Army. It is a unique military watch of the Luftwaffe. Luftwaffe is a genericGerman term for an air force. It is also the official name for two of the fourhistoric German air forces, the Wehrmacht air arm founded in 1933 and disbandedin 1946; and the current Bundeswehr air arm founded in 1956.
This military watch with amanual wind features aprofessionally made new light dial that was executed in a military style. It is an early variant of the big navigation watchof the Luftwaffe with hour angleindication, featuring a 60 minutecheckered outer track border, easilyreadable Arabic figures of a militarystyle, and blue steel hands.
This model of timepiece has afour-piece, double hinged case. Theexistence of an inner dust cover lid is a good sign of a quality watch. It wasused to protect the mechanism from dust and debris and to provide an extralayer of protection from shock or moisture. The back cover isstamped a marking of Luftwaffe \'FI\' (Flight), has number 4031 and data 02-43.
The winding crown is in very good shape and operates properly. The winding crown is made large andconvenient that it was possible to wind watch without taking off the gloves.
Thehands set is operated by a setting lever in the movement, which function isactivated by a pusher. You press the little button near the crown IN and thenmove the crown to set the hands, releasing the button once you’re finished.It’s easy, so don’t worry about getting the hang of it!This military mechanical watch hasan original movement. The originalmovement with genuine jewels has not any markings but is most definitely Swiss in origin. And though the makerof movement is not marked but I think that the collector can identify the makerof this timepiece. The original movementis in an excellent status which was very well saved, considering age of thiswatch.
Thepocket watches were not practical in combat. So, this watch was converted towristwatch.
