The transmission reads:\"I will balast for thirty seven cents. You furnish Coal or thirty nine cents & I will furnish coal. Answer quick. I want to leave on noon train. Arrangements are all made for starting work at once if you accept. I am compelled to be in St. Louis Friday.\"
John Stephen \"Jack\" Casement(January 19, 1829 – December 13, 1909)was a general and brigade commander in the Union Army during the American Civil War and a noted railroad contractor. He directed the constructional phase of the Transcontinental Railroad, which linked the Western United States with the East.
This old paper item is in good to very good condition for it\'s age.
