Manfred von Richthofen
Taking Off in His Albatros D.III
Roucourt, France April 1917
Perfect for Framing
Enlarged, reproduced photo of Manfred vonRichthofen taking off from his airfield at Roucourt Francein mid-April1917 (from Sanke 1037 in my collection)
In A E Ferko\'s wonderful publication \"Richthofen\" he refers to this photo on page 20, \"the famous red Albatros D.III of von Richthofen with Lubbert\'s (?) machine in rear. Completely overpainted in red, including the fuselage cross which has been crudely touched in by a technician, this is one of the few known photos of this D.III flown by von Richthofen.\"
This photo was taken when the Sanke photographer visited Roucourt in April 1917 and took many other shots that would become some of the most outstanding images, and Sanke postcards,of Jasta 11
The imagehasbeen painstakingly enlarged to ensure clarity . Matted and put into a standardpicture frame it would be a handsome addition to any WWIcollection.
