This replaced my JVC RK7030, which was taking longer and longer to get sound out after turning it on. It took up to 30 seconds. It could not be repaired because no one sold the motherboard. The Denon takes 7 seconds to get sound after turning on. Much better. The sound is awesome. I seem to have much less problems hearing the dialog over the background sound with the Denon. The JVC was not good, probably because the motherboard was going bad. I hooked it up without even reading the manual. Very easy to understand the rear connections. It took a bit of experimenting to find how to get sound out by using the optical digital out from the computer (which is the only thing that drives the Denon -- yeah, I'm a "cable-cutter"). Awesome setup that drives my 50" TV. I do not route the TV from the Denon -- I use the HDMI from the computer to the TV. I then set the TV to use the HDMI setting from the computer, and disable the internal speakers. The RC is a pretty loaded with buttons, but there are only a few that I really need -- power on/off, and volume controls. The rest is for customizing things. But I am satisfied with the default settings. So no studying a complex manual. It's well written, but could be organized better for a newbie (I used to write technical manuals, so I know how it could be improved). All in all, an excellent product.Read full review

I purchased this unit (avr 1601-60w x 5) because i just bought a HD television and my current tuner (AVR 800- 60w x 3 and 15w x 2 ) was only pro logic and didn't have DTS or 5.1 which was very important to me.The output was the same 60w per channel in the front 3 channels and it was only a $100.00 vs. $500-$1000 for a newer unit.I sold my old avr 800 for $50.00.Total cost $50.00. The only draw back was it only has one optical audio in and no HDMI or component video input or output.I only use it for audio not video,so not a problem. EDIT----- Had this unit for about a year and the power supply failed (would turn on for about 2 sec. then turn off). Cost more to fix than I bought it for. apparently this is a common problem on this generation of unit so I found out...
well it should of had Plug in , in back of ,so to Plug inEqualiser or CD ,in stead of wall outlets.
