I've been a Boogie guy since I ordered my brand new Mark II combo in 1983 and sold my Marshall stack - back when Boogies were all custom ordered and hand built - no retailers; all factory direct. In 1988 I bought a Mark III Coliseum 300 Simulclass half-stack (300 watts RMS - stadium city). Sold it when in a pinch. Bought a Mark III combo like this one some years later. While I'd been using a Strat forever (and it really sings with the 6L6s) by the time I bought the III combo I was using a vintage Les Paul. That, with the EL tubes, was spectacular with the Paul. With the second channel you can get that classic late sixties LP screaming, chirping, whine (best example of the tone - Marshall plexi at top volume: Dicky Betts / Allmans Fillmore / the lead on No Way Out). With the Mark III I could get that tone in channel 2 at all but the very lowest volume - the Boogie had such balls. Really kicks the Marshall's tail. I've been going through a FR system for some years now but am thinking about going back to the Boogie. If I could, I'd buy either a Mark III or the JP2C. Both are monsters.Read full review

My favorite amp, hands down. Yes It does take time to dial in your own tone as many reviews have stated but with a fully optioned mark that's why you get it for all the great tones. Not a one trick pony. Great cleans and a heavy distortion that will cut thru in any mix and built strong. Definitely has its own voice compared to other great high gain amps. Easy maintenance replace your own tubes, no tech needed. These amps can also be picked up at a reasonable price, it's a win win...

It works well and does the job. The only thing that's wonky about it is the lights go off instead of on when you switch channels. It's the opposite of how the original pedals worked.

Nothing beats a Boogie 295 power amp from the Mark iii era. Nothing! Run two 412 cabs with V30's, H30's, or Greenbacks using a 295 to power your wet side (send from guitar amp into effects, then 295), and a 412 in the middle for your direct (dry) amp tone and you will NEVER be sorry again!

I have owned many amps, especially Marshall and Fender, so when I first played a Mesa Mark lll I was floored by the richness of tone and over-the-top gain. Tubes make a big difference in tone, New Old Stock (N.O.S.) work the best and every amp likes it's own brand, you have to swap tubes to find the right ones. There are so many tones in this amp it is easy to get some clankers if you haven't read the manual first.
