I've gone through four or five of these Grind and Brew units from Cuisinart over the past several years. With regular home use they seem to last about two years and then the circuit board or controller chip fails. That leaves you with a coffee maker that cannot follow a program or may not operate the way it is designed to. Nevertheless, I keep buying them because they do the job while they last and are less expensive than similar units from rival manufacturers.

The vessel for holding the beans is too small for a 10-cup brew. The grinding leaves chunks of beans. There is no option on how you want the beans ground. The carafe does NOT keep the coffee warm for long; maybe an hour or less. The full bean vessel and the gold filter device both require cleaning after each use. Not what I expected, and should have read the description of this particular model more thoroughly. I'm selling it on my own, as the return fee was half the price of the coffee maker! Then I'll upgrade and pay the extra $100 to a higher capacity coffee been vessel.

This is a great idea from a great name brand. We love it, but had to figure our own preferances. The programming feature works good, but found out that it works better fixing the night before using already ground coffee. My reason is the machine turns off completely ( including warmer when cycle is finished) so if you want hot coffee, not warm, you need to fix it in the morning. Cuisanart needs to address this with an optional warmer switch. Also instructions state to put hot water in carafe so as to treat the pot prior to using. If you do that at night, the pot will be cold anyway. So I just grind in morning, takes about ten minutes. Then enjoy the great coffee!
I like the coffee maker, easy to use and looks really great. If you are buying a refurbished model, note that it DOES NOT come with the Gold Filter you would get with a new model. This was not noted anywhere on the e-bay product description so I ended up buying for about $10 at Bed, Bath & Beyond. The lid fits a little looser than I have seen on the same carafe, but its doesn't make a difference. Just think it would be better is a little more snug. The metal cafe keeps coffee hot for an hour or so. If you want hot coffee longer, you need to go with a glass carafe with a warmer plate. The good thing with the metal carafe is you never get that "burned" coffee taste.
I love this coffee maker. They have made it for many many years, and have only tweeked the features of it ever so slightly. This is a replacement for the exact same model that I had for at least 9 years. My old one just stopped getting super hot. I think it was the element. They last a long time, and brew very high quality coffee. I do not use the grinder (go figure). I use 8 O'Clock Coffee, and Starbucks. I don't use the gold filter, it's just too much to clean, along with all the other components. This is totally worth the cost, weather you buy a new one at $120 or a refurb. This is my 3rd model of the series. The carafe keeps the coffee hot. I have the 10 cup model. For when people come over, I do wish I had the 12 cup, but the 12 cup only comes in glass. I love this model. I hope they continue to make it. Buy it!Read full review
