Now the overall design is great for the consumer that wants to free up counter space...and it great... I've always had a clear glass carafe...and a heater if necessary, but with the thermal tank, you need to drink it before it gets cold or place the carafe on a hot plate.

Item was clean and electrically worked. The bottom of the brew basket was originally equipped with an arm and spring which allows for 'sneak a cup' while brewing. These parts were missing, making a total mess of the counter underneath the coffeemaker, even when the brew cycle is complete, due to residual drips, Fortunately i had an identical unit which had electrically stopped working, and I was able to salvage parts from it. That is the only reason I am not returning it. I would DEFINITELY not advise anyone to buy this product even were it new in box.

I purchased this Space Saver Coffee Maker as a replacement to an older model I've had for 6 or 7 years, and a model before that. My likes are the Space Saver application and the appearance. The brew is good, but not as good as making the same amount of coffee in a French Press. However: the French Press is less convient. I beleive the brew would be improved if the water was in contact with coffee for at least 3 minutes before discharging. You can compensate somewhat by using more coffee in the basket. Also, the visual fill on the water tank could be improved. When the water tank is setting on a low counter, It requires you to hunch over low, or stoop, to see the fill markings. Overall, I like the coffee maker.
The seller failed to include the directions to the coffee maker. I did contact him about this and he promptly sent them. It was a new unit in the original box. The installation was very difficult and I later discovered after checking the holes where the coffee maker was to be affixed to the underside of the counter that the threading on two of the holes was missing. I was unable to install the coffee maker without buying two larger screws and using double sided tape to secure the unit under the counter. The unit works fine. I have had two of these under the counter coffee makers in the past and they lasted about 10 -12 years each. I would recommend this brand, but would purchased the 12 cup unit had I to do it over again.
This coffee pot is sleek, and ads additional counter space. The only drawback is the 10 minutes to mount it under the cabinet. Once installed it makes great coffee and is automatically shut off once the coffee is made so no worries about leaving it on. Black and Decker made a mistake when they discontinued making the Space Maker line. I love the coffee pots and can openers.
