This machine makes excellent coffee. It really does. However a) it uses a ton of beans b) it is extremely loud (a blender crushing ice is about as loud) c) it is huge. Check if it fits in your kitchen before buying d) it requires cleaning after every use. Would I buy again - probably not. Do I like the coffee - absolutely.

Coffee tastes OK. No way to control the strength on pre-ground coffee. The stainless steel carafe is awful! Hard to put the lid back on and get it lined up properly - nuisance. The carafe is also hard to get all the coffee out of it - turn it upside down and hope for the best. I don't see how the "single cup" option can be used because there is no way to get the coffee out while it's brewing.

I like this cofee maker a lot! a huge improvement over the Starbucks drip machine I've used for the past several years. It takes some time figuring out all the bells and whistles, but they are what make this machine unique. The ability to control the steep time (Flavor) of the individual cups is great, ...I wish that feature could work for the caraffe as well. The "Strength" feature for the caraffe is just the amount of coffee it grinds from the fresh beans depending upon the No. of cups you are making and Strength setting...it seems to use a lot of coffee at first...until you figure out your taste. It's great to be able to set it to use pre-ground coffee as well. Main issues I have: 1. The symetrical caraffe and pour spout make it difficult to pour out the last 1-2 cups without turning it completely upside down and shaking it . (this may be a "feature" to keep the occassional grounds from getting to your cup..I don't like it. 2. Doesn't quite make 12-cups.(or 6-REAL size cups)... The caraffe size, max amount of water are OK, but the water that gets absorbed into the coffee grounds doesn't make it to the pot leaves you about a half cup short.. 3. The grinder is a bit too loud to have it come on and grind at 5AM in program mode...Yeah I knew that would be an issue..(the grinder is actually quieter than I expected.) For something that I use every day, sometimes several times a day, this is well worth the money.Read full review
I purchased this coffee maker as a backup for my much loved Kalorik Magic Bean. These are the only two manufacturers that I know of that measure water, so you constantly get a perfectly brewed cup of coffee. The controls are somewhat confusing. The "flavor" setting is actually the "Steep" time that the grounds get fully saturated with hot water. The "strength" setting is actually the amount of coffee this unit will grind...sort of a timer. The higher the setting the more coffee it will grind. Learning curve may take a couple of cups or pots. I only drink about two mugs full of coffee a day, so this coffee maker has a single cup serving with 9 increments of serving size. EXCELLENT. I found that with the least amount of coffee ground, along with the longest Steeping time, I get a beautiful, strong rich cup on coffee. I only use Ireland Gold Beans available on Ebay. The richest and most mellow cup of coffee you'll ever experience. With some patience and reading the manual and learning what the controls do, you'll love this coffee maker. In my opinion it is worth the price. Although I do love my Magic Bean it uses more coffee but delivers it faster because of the dual heating elements. This is why I only gave the Breville a four star rating. For those who don't mind waiting, this coffee maker should satisfy any coffee hounds desires. BTW: With this coffee maker set at 9 on the single serve option and the above mentioned settings it takes about 8 or 9 minutes to deliver the coffee. If I woke up at the same time each day, I would set the timer so it would be ready and waiting for me instead of the other way around.Read full review
bought this particular coffee maker because i wanted a larger reservoir for water and both 1 cup and carafe capabilities. It holds 12c of water, but really only 10. which is fine for us. Coffee tastes great, the process is rather slow…4 min for a cup, but I can live with that. The only real negative that I have, is the emptying of the filter after each and every cup of coffee made. Would be great to empty it after, say, every 4? but the machine will not allow that. Filter must be changed b4 you can do anything else. All in all it works well, does what it says, makes a mean cuppa joe. We're happy with it.
