Most folks buying older cassette decks know that dubbing or double cassette decks are usually less well made than quality single decks. So if you want a good cassette deck from the past look for a quality brand that has a know reputation like Pioneer, Kenwood, Technics, JVC, etc. While all these and others tended to drop in quality as cassettes lost ground to digital technology, older decks from the late 1970’s to mid-1980’s were a time of many decent decks and they did not all have to be Nakamitshi Dragons, REVOX, or super high end Akai either. So what about Panasonic’s audio offerings under the Technics brand? Well, stay in the best years and you should be after the right target. In Double/Dubbing decks however I think Pioneer, Kenwood, & JVC decks were just as good or better in some ways, and seem to stand up to time better. Yes, they all need belts, cleaning, and adjustments but so would you after 35 to 40 years of use or neglect. Note, I have not worked on every brand of cassette deck by a long shot but having worked on these double decks in the recent past - this is just my opinion and you should know what that is worth! Hope this helps someone out there....Read full review
