We've had the built-in grinder version of this pot previously. This coffee maker brews similarly. The thermal pot keeps coffee hot for the two plus hours that we drink coffee in the morning, but how long it will keep it that way is unknown; and this is without preheating the pot as recommended. No burnt tasting coffee for having the pot sit on a heating element for hours. The light indicating time to clean the brewing system is an interesting new feature for us and we are looking forward to seeing how that works. Our main complaint is the design of the permanent filter basket in this model. It is cone-shaped with a solid strip of plastic at the bottom which makes it difficult to rinse the last of the grounds out before a wash. Use of disposable filters would alleviate this problem but that is an added expense we have avoided in the past with previous models with permanent filters, and how available these cone-shaped filters are is another open question should we attempt that option. On the whole though, we are thoroughly pleased with this coffee maker. Highly recommended.Read full review

Difficult to pour in fresh water. Difficult to pour our last of coffee. The thermal carafe works good, but not great, and coffee is much better than when it sits on a warmer. Better coffee makes it a better buy.

I chose this coffee maker over others because (1) I wanted coffee brewed at a hot temperature so the coffee tastes good (2) I wanted coffee to be easy to make (3) I wanted the coffee maker to last awhile, (4) I liked the idea of using the brew delay and carafe to have coffee ready when I wake up. Cuisinart coffee makers get very good reviews. I purchased a DCC-1150 at an excellent price. I've been using the DCC-1150 over month now, so my opinion isn't just a newbie working out the kinks. What I like: (1) It does brew at a hot temperature: the coffee is good. (2)It is a straightforward process: pour in the water, add a filter and grounds, push some buttons (I needed instructions for the initial programming, but the process of making the coffee makes sense, (3) it doesn't look horrible on the counter, (4) the carafe, IF pre-warmed, keeps coffee hot a few hours, and it feels quite solid. It is nice when company comes. What I don't like: (1) while it brews hot, it does not stay hot. The thermal carafe sucks all the heat out of the coffee! The instructions even say to preheat the carafe 15 minutes with hot water! What is the point of that with a brew timer? Nonsense. (2) poor quality, including moving parts that don't match up (the hinged lid, the filter basket), a flimsy plastic knob, and a water window with painted on cup-lines with some missing. The whole unit just feels cheap with the plastic and awkwardness - you really have to baby it,(3) while it is simple to use, it isn't easy to use. To actually get water into the unit, you have to very carefully pour into a very small, awkward area from the top. To get the top to close (mine only somewhat closes), you have to fiddle with the filter basket to get it to line up just right. (4) the interior stays wet (not moist or damp, but exactly like a shower just after someone has used it) and it never dries out. In the end, I'm sort of appalled that this is probably among the best choices we've got without spending $100-1000. I was a big fan of the $15 Braun coffeemakers that lasted forever, looked nice, worked sensibly and easily and were designed and manufactured well. Nothing that reliable and affordable is available anymore.Read full review
Great coffee maker! Strongly recommend makers that use a thermal pot rather than the warming tray that always burns the left over coffee and the non-thermal pots allow for evaporation. Thermals are well worth the slight extra expense to keep the first cup tasting the same as the last cup. This maker brews quickly and quietly. Pause and serve works well. Makes great coffee and has all the features of more expensive makers. Has a pleasant beeping when the brewing is done. The only reason for the 4 rather than 5 stars is that the opening to fill the reservoir is smaller than I would like or am used to. As always, great product by Cuisinart.
Here is the good ... Makes good tasting coffee, the insulated thermal carafe keep the coffee hot for at least one hour. The 4 cup setting selection make the water hotter for better taste of small quantities. It is easy to use and easy to keep clean inside. Here is the bad ... the shower head spray patter design is bad, should be wider and with more pressure so as to cover the entire basket. The clock is not lighted, somewhat useless if you want to see the time you have to be within a few inches of the clock. The replacement charcoal filters are very expensive as compared to other brands. The carafe is hard to clean inside because the opening is too small for your hand to fit in and scrub it. Bottom line ... I would not buy it again, the retail price is outrageous, here on ebay they can be found factory remanufactured for a very decent price. I particular do not like not being able to see the time.Read full review
