The old gasket had shrunk and hardened too much. This fits perfectly and works great. May require a bit of water or alcohol to help slide it into the lid. It is supposed to fit tightly. Mine shows some mold marks from manufacture, but this has no effect on the function.

When installed, the pressure cooker leaked. It would not seal. The problem seams to be the height of the step, which measured .080, whereas the step in the original gasket, measured .090. This step determines the outside diameter of the gasket. I don't know if makes a difference, but the material is softer than the original. I can be reached at (310) 838-4686. Jack M. Friend

Vintage 4-quart pressure cooker gasket - VPC-G8 I was thrilled to find a new gasket for my Revere Ward pressure cooker. It's the old glass faced dial type. I called Revere Ware several years ago to order the No.600 gasket listed in the original manual I have and was told they no longer carried the part. The old gasket was at least 30 years old when it was no longer able to seal, over 10 years ago. The new black gasket is very flexible and has a very nice, tight fit but I have tried it 8 times over the past 2 weeks and have still not been able to pressurize the pot. I've followed the directions precisely. Each time steam escapes from the sides. I know I have the gasket fitted correctly as I've had this pot for years and looked at the online photos, but even tried turning it upside down once. I've tried the gasket dry as recommended but tried it wet a couple of times since this always worked with the original gasket. It seems to be extremely good quality but so far no luck in getting a good seal so I'll give it an "OK" rating for now.Read full review

Still working on it. Gasket seems to fit perfecly on the lid of our Revereware copper bottom pressure cooker. But the seal is less than perfect and steam escapes from under the lid, so pressure cannot reach even 5 pounds. It may not be a gasket problem - cannot see any obvious flaws - so we don't know yet.
