I love the Cook's Illustrated/Country/TestKitchen family of things, so I bought this DVD. It's similar to America's Test Kitchen (recipes, equipment, tastings), but there's less "science" (No "Doc" with his toys to explain molecules, nor Odd Todd's illustrations), and the "country" parts don't gel -- they have a studio audience for the taste-tests, and the "neighbor" with cooking issues has only showed up once with the first 5 episodes (all I've seen, I admit), and he's not part of the recipe improvement. It's still BowTie (Chris Kimball), Bridgette, Julia as the main chefs; Fred Flinstone (with a beard now) for equipment; and the skinny guy for tastings; just like ATK. There's a new chef credited, "Erin," but she only appears briefly, and as a minor minion. The recipes ARE printable via computer, so that's a nice step. This is only Season 1, so perhaps the show will get stronger in later seasons, but it's not as "smart" as ATK, but if you like the featured recipes and their general style, it's worth watchingRead full review
Wonderfully produced and beautifully done DVDs. It is like having Master Chef's in your own kitchen teaching/instructing you in the culinary arts. Recommended highly. I love each of the cast!
