it appears this is a parallel el-84 power tube amp with one 12Ax7preamp tube. I replaced the 12ax7 with a 5751 i always do with my Class A amp that do not have a PI tube stage. i think the sound better, and allow me better control of the gain. not only from the amp, but also from the guitar. i also use 5751 pre amp tubes in most situations. they are a better fit for me. i did all a 100mm fan to the side of this amp because it was running hotter than most EL 84 tube amps i have. so now there is an Arduino nano with a thermistor that’s controls the fan sped when the fan kicks on to keep the tubes at optimum heat. This is so easy to do I don’t know why more companies do no do this. the gain control added to this amp works great. it let you make the amp have pretty much an all clean signal which is great most of these smaller amp breakup so quick getting a clean. tone loud is impossible. i waited for a while to see if there were any issues, and the heat was one, but i resolved that. another is a flat spot in the volume pot that has seemed to always be there. i figure this may be due to the gain knob addition, but also may be a pit issue. i will replace these shortly with another bend pot in the values that best match the other components on the amp. good amp, loud when using my 2x10” closed back cabinet.Read full review
