Allright, out of the box you have a good sounding tube amp to practice with at low volumes. When you start using the gain channels, there is noticeable sustain loss and volume on the higher notes. This is irritating when you play anything above the 15th fret. The clean channels don't seem to do it much. Th effects are okay at best, they also rob tone and sustain. BUT BUT BUT.. for 180bucks you get a good sounding tube amp. I use a modded tubescreamer and 50/50 the gain with the pedal and its not bad at all, plenty of harmonics. I play a lot of speed metal and tapping....its overall a good practice amp!
For the price on eBay and some repairs, this low watt amp does everything that I could hope for. With a speaker upgrade this Champ gets vintage tones without going deaf.

Great little amp. I bought this amp because I really like my Super Champ X2. I found the Vibro Champ XD sounds great with a upgraded speaker (Jensen C8R 4ohm). It is only 5 watts so you can crank it with out getting to loud. It does not get as loud as the Vibro Champ from the 60s or 70s. But you don't buy a 5 watt for volume, you buy it for tone, and for the price the Blackface voices on this one are worth the money.
This is a great amp. With the warmth of the tubes and the selection of effects built in, and I mean the ridiculous selection of effects, I am more than happy. I received the amp in PRISTINE condition and with the price, it's unbeatable.

The name says it all. Through all the years of vibro champ models you pretty much get the same great quality and sound and the XD is no exception.
