I purchased this with the assumption that was stated that it would hold 125 ft. of 5/8" hose. I have less than 100 ft. and completely filled it up to where the sides were flemzy. Second mistake I made, I mounted it on the outside of a brick wall with the hardware provided. not good. It almost immediately fell off the wall after putting the hose on it. when installing the leading hose that is included, it is impossible to install as intended with the hose being crimped, tho it doesn't block off all the water pressure. If you are using a 50 ft. piece of hose or less, and it is 1/2" diameter you should be fine as long as you are mounting it to a framed wall. If you are to mount it to a masonary wall you should consider getting tapcons or anchor bolts, which are not in the included hardware. The design also should have been that there were TWO mounting holes at the top, one on each side, rather than just the one, due to when the hose is installed it becomes very top heavy and two mounting screws would stabilize this problem. This sidewinder hose reel worked on my house wall near the outdoor faucet for about 20 years, Then it failed suddenly when the plastic spool broke up and hose connections leaked everywhere, I decided to replace it because it would also no longer wind the hose. The local supplier sent a replacement reel that had no hole in the outer rim. Therefore, it could not be locked in place, I explained that to the MFG. I have a good shop and am a mechanic. I drilled a 7/8" dia. hole dead center into the outer rim to fix it by using a Forstner bit. That worked perfectly, but it required some skill. I notified the MFG with my solution and sent the attached picture. They sent me two small parts that meant nothing, but I did not care. I had already fixed it. I figure this was a production error.

When i saw the hose reel i thought it looked ok, it wasn't to expensive. When it arrived it was very light to carry, i expected it to be quite heavy, when i removed it from the box i was very surprised at how flexible it was and the plastic very thin. I also noticed at that time with the postage and packaging costs the reel was far too expensive !!! I would never of purchased it had I of known the total price in the end. Turning the reel without the hose is very stiff and the handle is to short and to small.

For the past 20+ years I had wonderful use of Suncast's Wall-Mounted Hose Reel. Recently, it began leaking a lot during use & it was difficult to remedy. I chose to replace it with a current model. The connection hose to the house was not as strong as the previous one. And there were no wheels to guide the 100' attached garden hose. The new model had a differently designed backplate. Mounting screws did not match up to the holes in my bricks' mortar. I had to buy a brick drill bit and after struggling for an hour chose to give up...unable to finish. I chose to take the lubricant packet & couple of "O" Rings off the new model and put them to use on the old Suncast, and threw out the new model. When I tried calling the "Help Line" from Suncast "All Lines were Busy."
