This book is much more than a picture book of some nostalgia scenes in San Francisco. This book historically recounts the background of much of the Pan-Pacific International Exposition in 1915. I was amazed at the story of how a successful letter writing program generated 1 million letters of recommendation to East Coast relatives regarding the proposed fair. It was so successful that it was repeated. This book has some amazing photos of places that give context to many places in San Francisco. It reveals the history of Golden Gate Park and Spreckles, the lady from the farms of what we call the avenues and how she seduced the rich sugar mogul and convinced Rodin to donate 14 sculpture pieces including the thinker to a museum that didn't exist until the world's fair. The illustrations and photos are wonderful, but the stories are priceless.Read full review
