The biggest surprise about the TI-80 is its size. TI never really played up how much smaller this thing is than all their other graphing calculators without sacrificing a lot of features. It's as wide as a 1992 era TI-36X solar and just under 3/4 of an inch taller. It's built well like all the other TI calcs and has a feature set somewhere between a TI-81 and TI-82. For the size, it's also a great scientific calculator with dot matrix display, which was much less common when it came out. For the price you can pick one of these up now, it's still a great option. The ONLY real down side to this calculator is the painfully large pixels on the woefully small screen. Every time I look at it, I think of how much better it could be. It's like looking at a TI-60X vs a TI-68. BUT if you can deal with that, and you really should be able to, this little gem is worth having around as a small grapher. You don't find a grapher smaller except for the HP 9g, which is not HP's best effort by far.Read full review

The description of the item was misleading. It said it was "for parts". I read the description, and is says the screen is acting weird depending on what angle you look at it. This is what the screen is supposed to look like. This is why this calculator did so poorly on the markets of '95 and '96. The screen was out of date, compared to that day's technology. The Ti-82 was already out by then, of which was what is was based off of. This calculator was a letdown to calculator connoisseurs on the market. I think this is why the price was so low, the owner thought it was broken. I don't know how many times i bought an old graphing calc, and got a steal simply because it was "Broken". Buyers, next time you need to find a graphing calculator lookout for a product like this. Amazing deal. Does the job in my collection.Read full review

Even though it looked a little rough in the pictures, the calculator arrived in excellent condition and functions as good as new. I have used it a few times and like it very much. It arrived earlier than expected and came packaged very well. The Ti-80 is a good calculator for anyone doing math on their own time, such as independent study or homeschooling. It is also a good choice for anyone on a budget that needs a good functioning basic graphing calculator.

Good, inexpensive, and old. Good quality calcs may be collectors' products. Like simplicity, dislike poor display (it was originally made to be a basic and inexpensive calc). If you want something for Algebra II or higher, definitely go with something more powerful, like a TI-83 or better. Overall, if you know what you're buying and why, you should be great.
